“Clients are now so locavore-ish that Occasions can have farmers plant to order for a wedding, if time allows. Which is what La Prima Catering, also in Washington/Baltimore, is doing for a wedding in September. The seeds for the kale that will become a salad with lavender honey were planted June 20; the main course, chicken seasoned with lemon grass and paired with roasted eggplant, will be made with chicks that will grow up on the farm after they arrive Aug. 8.”
Contemplating his life, George visits the pier and watches various couples who are happy together, kissing, playing with their babies. George shows up at the door of his old girlfriend Susan Ross and asks, “Will you marry me?”
The next day, George visits Jerry to tell him the news: he and Susan are engaged!
“I’m a man. Jerry, I’m a man. And do you know why? It’s because of that talk we had. You were my inspiration. Do you believe it? You. That lunch was the defining moment of my life.”
George eagerly inquires how things are with Melanie, but Jerry confesses they broke up; it irritates Jerry that she eats peas one at a time. George can’t believe it: “What happened to the pact? We were both gonna change. We shook hands on a pact. Did you not shake my hand on it?”
